How are they Different?

Main Differences:

February 6, 2010
The way the instruments are played, in both pieces you can tell it deals with a dramatic scene. However in each piece they have a different way of describing what is going on with the characters.

For example in Morales, from the time frame of 0.18 seconds up to 0.31 seconds when there are wooden blocks being struck against a hard surface this could act for footsteps of someone.  As the piece continues at 0.32 there is a forte drum beat that could symbolize being caught.  In Morales it is apparent that they use their instruments in order to tell their stories and their heightened drama that both pieces contain.  Unlike in rent where the scenes are portrayed by the lyrics being sung by the different voices.

We will go further into details for the break down of individual stylistic pieces in the tab labeled: specifics.

MORALS VS RENT.

January 20, 2010

Some Other Differences:

When looking at the two pieces there are different in the ways that they are protrayed.  In the piece Morals it begins with the percussion that homophonic with background of an offbeat  xlyphones and drums.  This piece also has about 1 minute and 30 second intro before you can hear any vocals unlike the Rent piece. In No Day But Today it begins with vocals first males and then follwed with a female voice. Then there is an accompaniment of the instruments as listed in the previous page.

The pieces were differiate in the length as well. In the Western Drama by Rent it tells a story with the lyrics.  However in Moral’s there is no story except some random sounds in between the music playing.

This is displayed by the lyrics found for each song. The lyrics from Finale B are on the right hand side.

獻給歌舞伎舞台

(This translates into "Gives to the kabuki stage")

There were no found lyrics for this piece, but they seem to be noises made my the mouth to imitate other sounds and instruments.  Which brings up another difference that in the Japanese piece is known as a percussion ensemble made for 3-5 players.  Where the Rent piece is made for vocalist, 6 people, and then others to play the instruments. (Guitair, Drums, Keyboard etc.)

LYRICS:

Rent, Finale B:

The heart may freeze or it can burn

The pain will ease if I can learn

There is no future

There is no past

Thank God this moment's not the last

There's only us

There's only this

Forget regret-- or life is yours to miss.

No other road

No other way

No day but today

There's only yes

Only tonight

We must let go

To know what is alright

No other course

No other way

No day but today

I can't control

My destiny

I trust my soul

My only hope

is just to be

There's only now

There's only here

Give in to love

Or live in fear

No other path

No other way

No day but today
